The Eternal Battle With Aging
Age, like a psychotic serial killer, stalks us relentlessly. It doesn't sleep when we do. It exacts a toll for every little infraction when we are awake. And it doesn't even tell us the rules. Step into the sun unprotected for a short while -- ZAP you've aged. Eat and drink "wrong" -- ZAP age got you again. Drink too little water -- ZAP. Use an improper nightly facial routine -- ZAP, or no routine -- ZAP ZAP. Use the wrong cosmetics, sunscreen, moisturizer, etc. ZZZAAAAPPP! And the really depressing thing is that we cannot win, we can only bravely fight a losing battle. And hopefully lose slowly, very slowly. Because there are unseen allies coming to our rescue, literally in the nick of time. White-coated, bespectacled scientists have finally been unleashed in this battle, as they are in all battles. Only this time they are not studying how to make an enemy die, they are at last doing something useful -- slowing the inevitable march of death and dying, age and aging. They are late to the battle and we have sufferred for it. Most of us. But the young and carefully groomed, like the model below, have a chance. A chance to not only live decades longer, but look great for most of that time. |
